Governing Board Signs Resolution Urging State Legislature to Override Aggregate Expenditure Limit

On Wednesday, February 9, Laveen’s Governing Board unanimously approved a resolution urging the Arizona State Legislature to immediately pass a resolution that singularly, with no other stipulations, overrides the Aggregate Expenditure Limit for the Fiscal Year 2022, and that the Arizona Legislature approves and the Governor signs a new law that provides a permanent solution to the Aggregate Expenditure Limit issue.

M.C. Cash Student Recognized as an Arizona Success Story

M.C. Cash student Roberto Alvarado has been selected as an Arizona Student Success Story and was featured at the Arizona Department of Education’s HOPE Conference 2021.   Roberto was selected for his dedication to academics and personal growth.

In the past year, Roberto’s teacher has seen him advance both his reading and math skills. He gives 100%  every single day. He has joined the school’s band program where he plays the trumpet.

Roberto always walks into class with a huge smile, a high five, and a hug. His kindness is exuberant. His helpfulness and willingness to try are unmatched in the classroom. His sensitivity for others and the way he looks out for those who need help are genuine. He is always the first to volunteer for any task. He is always so helpful with his friends, especially those who are at a lower level. He is constantly looking out for others who cannot always look out for themselves. He is determined, happy, and most importantly he is an amazing young man.

Preschool Registration Begins February 3

Laveen schools will begin accepting preschool registrations for the 2022-23 school year beginning on February 3. Next year, four schools will offer the full-day academic preschool program, Desert Meadows, Estrella Foothills, Paseo Pointe, and Vista del Sur.

Now Enrolling for 2022-23

Enrollment for all Laveen schools for the 2022-23 school year has begun. Visit our Registration page to enroll your child using our secure online parent portal or to access printable enrollment documents.

Parents/guardians will need to present the required documents listed below in person for verification prior to the start of school.

  • Child’s original birth certificate
  • Child’s immunization record
  • Proof of Residence, such as utility receipt or lease agreement (refer to Arizona Residency Guidelines)
  • Legal papers, if applicable for custody
  • Withdrawal form and report card from previous school
  • Photo identification for parent/guardian.

*Please note, Vista del Sur is an accelerated school and students must take an assessment prior to enrolling. Paseo Pointe is a dual language immersion (DLI) school. Students entering kindergarten – fifth grade must enroll in the DLI program (DLI will expand a grade level each year).

Mission: Kindergarten 2022 Join us for an Exploration of Kindergarten Feb. 1

Enrolling a kindergartner next school year? Join us for an exploration of Laveen’s kindergarten program on February 1 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at all Laveen schools.

Each of our nine schools will host an information night for prospective families. Our school principals will navigate you through everything you need to know as you prepare to launch your child into a successful academic career.

Registration* for the 2022-23 school year will open February 1. Apply online at www.LaveenSchools.org/registration. Enrollment requirements may apply.

Students may be enrolled in any of our schools regardless of where they live, space permitting. Families living outside of a school’s transportation zone will be responsible for providing transportation.

*Children must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2022 to register for kindergarten. Preschool for children ages 3-5 is offered at Desert Meadows, Estrella Foothills, Paseo Pointe, and Vista del Sur.

New Social Studies Curriculum Evaluated for Adoption

The K-5 social studies adoption committee has been meeting regularly since October 2021 to review potential curriculum to support K-5 students in social studies. This process involves representatives from all schools that research and evaluate curriculum programs and will make a recommendation for the 2022-23 school year. The committee is currently reviewing the following publishers:

Laveen’s Annual Winter Festival is December 3

Each year, the Laveen Elementary School District hosts a Winter Festival for the community. The eighth annual Laveen Winter Festival is scheduled for Friday, December 3, 2021. The event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David Glasser Athletic Complex, 5001 W. Dobbins.

This year’s Winter Festival will feature obstacle courses (for both big and little kids), games, activities, student performances, photo opportunities, holiday gift vendors, food, and much more!

Admission is free. Tickets will be available for purchase for select activities. Credit cards accepted.

All proceeds benefit the Laveen Education Foundation.

Laveen Community Remembers M.C. Cash Principal Lisa Sandomir

Sandomir RodelLongtime M.C. Cash principal, Ms. Lisa Sandomir passed away on Wednesday, October 27 as a result of injuries due to a car accident on Tuesday afternoon.

Ms. Sandomir has been the beloved principal of M.C. Cash for sixteen years, an amazingly gifted leader and caretaker of her students, staff, the Cash community, and her fellow administrators.  She has been recognized throughout the district and state, including receiving Arizona’s highest honor for principals as well as M.C. Cash being named as an A+ School of Excellence under her leadership.  She was known throughout the community for her love and devotion to providing a positive Kids at Hope learning environment for children.

To support our students and staff, our entire counseling and psychology teams will be on campus in the days ahead to provide support, including walk-in counseling.

District administration is in contact with Ms. Sandomir’s family and we will keep the community informed of services and other plans to honor her legacy.

Cash School.  For so many years we have watched her lead the Cash Community with excellence.  Her love and generosity will be carried forward in the thousands of people she impacted.

Thanks to all of our community members who have reached out to express their condolences.  We know that the Laveen community will do what it always does:  support each other in challenging times.
